Citation Bar Decoration

Those bars, above the Police Officer's badge, are departmental awards or Citation Bar Decorations. The Citation Bars are awarded through nominations from civilians, fellow officers, supervisors, or the officer him or herself. These citations are awarded for bravery, intelligence, quick thinking, and team work while proforming his/her duties. Just below, are the citations bars that the Kinnelon Borough Police Department award and a brief discription regarding their meaning.

AWARDED FOR:
Dedication for the defense and Protection of the United States Flag.
AWARDED FOR:
An outstanding act in the line of duty with risk involved.
AWARDED FOR:
An individual act of heroism at imminent personal hazard of life in combat with an armed adversary.
AWARDED FOR:
A highly unusual accomplishment under adverse conditions with some degree of hazard to life and limb to the nominee or where death or injury to a third party is prevented.
AWARDED FOR:
An act performed in the line of duty, which through disregard of personal safety or prompt and alert reaction, results in saving a life.

EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT
 
AWARDED FOR:
A team effort under combat conditions including all participating staff members who in support of Departmental operations, distinguished themselves to effectuate the protection of life and property.
AWARDED FOR:
A highly credible accomplishment bringing public acclaim to the officer, his/her department of the law enforcement profession as a result of training and devotion to duty or service to the public.
AWARDED FOR:
A credible act in the line of duty, which meets some, but not all of the requirements for other medals, and is unusual in nature, showing initiative and accomplishment.
AWARDED FOR:
Achievement of 65 credits towards a degree and/or the introduction of a new method or device to improved departmental procedures.
