WINTER RECREATION REGISTRATION 2024-2025
Registration for the Winter 2024-2025 Season is now open. For Basketball (2-8th grade), Boys and Girls Wrestling (1-8th grade), Basketball Bootcamp (K & 1st grade) and Coed Colts Clinic (pre-K & K) browse the youth winter 2024-2025 programs. Stay tuned for more information regarding the opening of the Boys HS Recreation Basketball Program.
- Boys and Girls Basketball: Registrants 2-8th grade will play in a league from January through March. Teams will play 2 games per week. Drafts will take place in early December and play will begin right after the new year. Complete Schedule TBD
- Basketball Boot Camp: Kindergarten and 1st grade boys and girls: Kids will learn all the skills they need to play in leagues from professionals. Boot Camp will meet on Saturday afternoons beginning January 11. Kindergarten and 1st grade players will focus on skills drills and games.
- Kinnelon Colts Clinic: the ultra popular all-sports program for both boys and girls grades Pre-k and kindergarten. This activity gives the kids the opportunity to have fun all winter on Saturday mornings tackling obstacle courses, playing different games and ending in a tug-of-war contest. Kinnelon Colts Clinic begins January 11.
- Wrestling: Boys and Girls Wrestling registration is now open to all 1st through 8th graders. Practices start on Tuesday November, 19th and the season typically runs through the end of February. Practices will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday every week at Kinnelon High School and depending on age and skill level will either be 2 or 3 times per week. Our matches start in January and are on Saturdays, usually mid-afternoon. Subsequent to sign-up the coaching staff will be reaching out to you in a formal communication. (here's a note from our wrestling group with more detailed information)
- Wrestling is a sport for all kids regardless of age, gender, size, build, or athletic ability. We encourage everyone in this town to try it at least once. It is never too late to start as we have athletes who started in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade and had amazing success.
- For those new to the sport, you can balance wrestling with other sports or activities. If you are interested in trying but still want to play basketball we encourage that.
- The foundation that you build through wrestling is beneficial for any other sport you will participate in.
- If you are still unsure about signing up, we will offer a FREE 3 day clinic Tuesday, November 12th through Thursday, November 14th. There is no commitment as we simply want to expose the young athletes of this town to the sport. (A waiver will be required to be signed on Tuesday, November 12th)
PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR SCHEDULES FOR BASKETBALL AT THIS TIME...WE CANNOT GIVE YOU EXACT DAYS AND TIMES UNTIL REGISTRATION CLOSES. THANK YOU.
PLEASE NOTE: Make sure that your son/daughter's grade is correct during registration or they will be placed with the wrong age group.
Late fees begin on December 2rd. The Wait list begins on December 9th. Do not wait until the New Year to register, placement on a team after December 9th is not guaranteed.
Please sign up to coach/co-coach/assistant coach/ or to manage one of our clinic teams. We can't do it without you. Thank you Please contact the recreation department with any questions. mschuckers@kinnelonboro.org

The Kinnelon youth hockey teams will play a 16-game schedule in the Morris County Youth Hockey League (MCYHL). For more information on the league including rules, teams, and code of conduct, please visit https://www.mcyhl.net/.
Dependent on registration numbers, we will be introducing more teams within accordance to USA Hockey age brackets to ensure smaller teams, fairer play, and more ice time per player. We will have a maximum of 15 players plus a goalie on each team. In case we exceed the maximum numbers of registration in an age division, we will form an additional team in the same age division or adjust the rosters.
Mini-Mites: This is a great opportunity to introduce your starting skater to the sport of Hockey! Coaches are allowed to be on the ice during the game to help ensure a fun learning environment.
Middle School: Our middle school will play in the Skylands Middle School league. It is a 10-game season and will play in the middle school showcase in March.
All players are eligible to play up an age bracket with a proper liability waiver, but forbidden to play down. Due to USA Hockey governance, a player playing down will result in a forfeit.
USA Hockey Registration:
All participants must complete the USA Hockey registration process prior to participating in a USA Hockey sanctioned league. Participant registration is complete when the individual member registration information and all appropriate fees are received, and the participant is processed by a USA Hockey member program.
Individuals to register directly with USA Hockey at membership.usahockey.com
Practice:
There will be 16 practices during the season. We will start the week of September 6th, Monday at 7:20-8:20 PM at Sport-O-Rama 20 College Rd, Monsey, NY 10952. Teams will alternate every other Monday until November 4th. After the first week of November, we will be subject to ice availability for the remaining practice schedule and gym availability for off-ice practices.
For players needing equipment, please email us upon registration, contactus@kinnelonyouthhockey.org, with your specific needs and sizes, and we will do our best to find match.
New Fair Play Policy:
We are introducing a fair play policy to observe the principle of fair play and promote the proper behavior and respect for all participants. Please visit our website to review our fair play policy and rules around playing up or down. https://kinnelonyouthhockey.org/fair-play-policy.
